Ski Fun!

Today I had my first ever ski lesson and I have survived to tell the tale! It was really nerve racking but I had a great instructor who was also a fellow Aussie. I did a lot today but I am still going to have to practice a lot before I am totally confident. You can read all about my lesson over at my other blog Lake World Tour part 2.

I just wanted to take the time to thank all my wonderful readers and thank you guys for leaving lovely comments. It is nice to know you are out there following along with me on my crazy adventure.
I just wanted to answer some questions people have asked me....

Thanks Chaucee you made my day with your comment! I haven't got any scales so I have no idea what is going on with my weight at the moment but with all this walking in the snow, skiing and walking up and down my apartment stairs it is bound to be having a good effect on my body.

I love my new shirt that I bought from Joe Fresh and the colours are bright but they have been made brighter by the way I edited the photo.
I have been editing my photos using Picnik over at Picasa Web Albums. It is a photo sharing site by Google which Blogger uses and I stumbled across it the other day when uploading my photos. When you upload photos onto your blogger blog it automatically puts them into a Picasa Web Album. When you click on the upload photo icon when writing a blog post look on the left hand side of the upload box and you will see Picasa. Click and it will take you to your web album. Click on a individual photo and select edit and it will open it in Picnik and you can have a play around. Hope this make sense.

Fill in the blank Friday

I recently discovered a sweet blog The Little Things We do and Lauren does a great link post every Friday called Fill in the Blank Friday and I have decided to join in. Head on over to her blog to check out the other bloggers taking part.

Here in North America they have a massive sale the day after Thanksgiving and they call it Black Friday. Being from Australia I had never heard of this until this week when all the stores were advertising their sales on TV. Canadian Thanksgiving was in October so I don't think there are any Black Friday sales here today. Todays questions are all about holiday shopping.

1.   Black Friday is  something I have never heard of before. It actually scares me, I don't think I would handle all the craziness   .

2.  Christmas shopping this year will include  only a few things for the boy, money is tight and since we are on the other side of the world to our family we will only be buying pressies for William.

3.  Holiday shopping makes me  happy. I love buying presents for my loved ones but I try to do my shopping early so I don't have to deal with the massive crowds .

4.  This year my Christmas list will include   the last book in the Twilight series (I know I am a little behind). I have been looking for it in the shops but I cant find a copy. I think I will have to order it online.

5.  Bargain hunter, or full price shopper?    I am a bargain hunter but I shop before all the Christmas sales start so I usually end up paying full price .

6.  The best and worst things about shopping is   I love shopping but I never really stopped to think why I like it so much. I guess the best thing is that it is something I enjoy doing myself so I get a little me time and the worst thing is i usually spend way to much money.

7.  Online shopper or in-person shopper?   I am an in store shopper. I like to be able to see and touch what it is I am buying. I like to know and see exactly what it is I am purchasing .

I haven't started my Christmas shopping yet but I am not worried because I don't have a lot to buy. I do have to organise some Christmas decorations which is one of my favorite parts of this holiday. I cant wait to make and buy some decorations and brighten up our apartment with some Christmas cheer.

Baby it's cold outside

It was freezing cold outside today, it was minus 19 degrees! By the time I got home my little nose was red and my fingers were frozen even though I was wearing gloves. I took the boy down to the day care center to have a play with all their cool stuff. The day care isn't open for business yet so we have the run of the place for one more week.

After our play I took my little penguin for a walk through the Village Center Mall, this little guy can smell  donuts a mile away just like his Daddy. I couldn't resist his cute little face when he asked for one, who could right?

I really miss my curly hair. As I said yesterday I left my curlers back in Australia. I didn't bring them with me because I thought I would not have much use for them as I would be wearing beanies most of the time and also I did not have enough room left in my suitcase.

So what is a girl to do with her straight and straggly hair? Buy more curlers or a curling iron? Thought of that but I am looking for a quicker and easier way then curlers and I have never been able to master using a curling iron.

I came across this great video of a sock bun. What is a sock bun you ask? Well it is a cute way to tie all your hair up in a bun. The benefit of using a sock is that it looks neater and it also looks like you have more hair. Anyway, check out the video, the chick on there explains the sock bun a lot better then I do! She has also done another video where she shows you how you can curl your hair using the sock bun, genius!

Now the only problem is that I found my hair was to short to roll the sock down like she did so I can not curl my hair in this way, bummer. I guess my next option is to buy a curler. I have done some online research and I came across this little beauty. A triple barrel waver.
I so very much want to get my hands on one of these bad boys as it looks so easy to use. There are a few different brands around like Babyliss and Revlon but my conundrum is do I buy one with a Canadian plug or an Australian plug?? Because eventually I will be back living in the land of oz as I only have a 2 year visa. Decisions decisions. I think I need to do a little more thinking and research about the conversion of power between the two countries.

Anybody have any advice on curling hair? Or on what hair styling products they like best?

Snow Bunny

We had a family fun day in the snow today. We did some more sledding and built our first snowman. For some more pics check out my other blog Lake World Tour part 2. This is my ski gear, very warm and very chic with a hint of pink.

Don't you just love Williams little hat, it is a penguin! We are really enjoying living up here on the mountain. It is still a little quiet around here and I cant wait for the season the begin. I am also really looking forward to having a white Christmas this year. Our Christmas back home are always sunny and hot and we always go to the beach. It will be a lot different this year, I just wish my family and friends were here to enjoy it with us.

We have settled into our little apartment here at Big White ski resort and we are loving it. It is warm and cozy and has a great view of the mountains. Visit here for more pictures of our place.

It has been snowing nearly all day today and it is just beautiful. The season officially opens on December 4th but if it continues to snow like this the season may open early. My hubby started work today but I still have 3 more weeks until I begin my training at the Kids Center.

We had our first play in the snow yesterday and William loved it. We had so much fun playing with Williams sled and Will was smiling from ear to ear. You can read all about it and see some more cute pictures here.

Chaucee asked me a couple questions about how long we are in Canada for and why we decided to come here. We are here on a working holiday and we have a 2 year working visa. Both my hubby and I have jobs at the ski resort Big White. Greg is duty manager at the hotel and I am working in the Kids Centre looking after the kiddies. Our jobs are only for 6 months (the length of the ski season) so we may return home to Western Australia in 6 months or look for some summer work.
We sold our house and most of our furniture and possessions. The few things that we have kept are in storage back home and we have only bought a suitcase each worth of clothes. We have rented a fully furnished 2 bedroom apartment and bought a car to get around in.

Why Canada and why work a ski season? Well Greg and I went on a holiday around the world for 3 months and we ended up in  Canada in 2007 and we were going to work a ski season. Before we started work I fell pregnant with William so we decided to return home to Western Australia. We still really wanted to come back and finish our little adventure so here we are.

We will also be living at the ski resort so as soon as I step outside my apartment I will be in snow. Which means that a lot of the time I will be dressed up like a snow bunny! because of our cross the world move, funds are a little tight so I am not able to go shopping mad while I am here :( All our money has gone on buying our snow gear - jackets, pants, boots, skis, helmets etc. I have the basics, jeans, cardigans, hoodies, boots and of course scarves. I walked past Gap yesterday and looked longingly in the window and sighed. Can't afford anything in there yet so expect to see A LOT of remixing until my pay checks start rolling in!

An Aussie girl in the snow, much like a fish out of water

Well I have finally arrived in Canada. My new home is Big White, Kelowna which is in British Columbia. I am a long long way from my home town Rockingham in Western Australia. I have a new blog Lake World Tour Part 2 which I have set up so that my family and friends can follow along with us on our travels. I hope you will visit it and read all about my Canadian adventures too.

I have hatted being absent from my little blog world and I have missed reading all of your blogs so I will be doing a lot of blog reading to catch up, which I don't mind I just have to find the time.

Well it is Autumn (or should I say Fall) again. It is a little cooler then I expected but I am slowly getting used to it. So I have been layering up to keep warm.

Bon Voyage!

Today is the 1st of November and the first day of our Canadian adventure.
This afternoon we are boarding our flight to Sydney where we will stop over night and then on Tuesday we fly out of Sydney straight to Vancouver. I am so excited that I got absolutely no sleep last night. My mind was going a hundred miles an hour thinking about what I still needed to pack, have I remembered everything, what time do we have to leave.....

Over the next 2 weeks we will be settling into our new community and I may have little or no internet access so you will have to stay tuned to hear about of looong journey across the world.

Bon voyage and see you when I am on the other side of the globe!
Love Meek xoxo
