sao beach

we took a drive out to sao beach, the best beach on the island of phu quoc.

the drive was about 45 minutes and we drove along the coast. the road was a very bumpy red dirt track so we bounced around a lot in the back of the taxi, but the scenery was beautiful. it was beach on one side of us and mountains on the other.

the coast line is untouched for the moment. i am sure in a few more years it will be developed. at the moment there are just a few shacks along the beach. shacks that are made out of sheet metal or wood and straw.

sao beach is hugged by the mountains on either side and it has beautiful clean white sand and the water was warm. there are beach side restaurants, jet ski and boat hire and the tourist cruise boats are docked just off shore.

we walked up the beach, had a swim and built sand castles in the beautiful white sand. we watched the sun setting as we drank mango smoothies and watched william splashing around in the water. we ate dinner at a restaurant on the sand by candle light. we felt as though we were in paradise.

by the time we finished dinner, the sun had gone down, the night boat tours had departed and we were the only ones left on the beach. it was another bumpy ride home back to our resort and to bed after another exhausting day in the beautiful sunshine.
